We live here now!

Well, the most ironic thing about living full-time at BaHa Ranch is that I currently have very little time to blog about living full-time at BaHa Ranch! Here's a quick update on the work we've been doing since we moved down here on Saturday, May 12th:



Grey paint with sand texture added in. This is the living room wall.

Bright blue paint on the smallest wall of the bedroom.
Our old entertainment center has been re-purposed as a dresser!

We have a front door! Here is BA installing the doorknob.

BA still has to finish upper part of wood panneling (which is actually wood flooring).

All the paint shown is either from the "oops paint" at Lowe's or from the Habitat store. The wood flooring that was used on the walls is also from Habitat, as is the front door. And the tiny fridge is a refurbished one from a Sear's outlet.

BA Projects (BAjects?)

Over the weekend, I did some solo work on the box:

I finished the bedroom wall by adding plank flooring as paneling. It took a lot of trim nails to put this up since the Locktite did not work as expected. These nails bend easily to the wood. I suggest finding another way. We will blow in some cellulose insulation behind the wall to finish it before we put up the last planks. 

  

I added OSB 2x4 size I got from Habitat for a dollar a piece and screwed it to the studs. There will be a window put on this wall at a later time. On the wall above the sink, I put up grey bamboo planks to go with the soon to be grey kitchen. It was $5 a box at Habitat. We will have to order some more from the flooring store to finish. I added some cellulose insulation to the ceiling of this area, which was very dirty and dusty. Next time we will use solid foam found at Habitat in sheets 4 and 2 inches thick. 

We used tin sheeting from Lowes for the bottom section of the kitchen and living room wall.  The top we are thinking of painting unless you send us some better suggestions. I was thinking of using used license plates, comic book pages with a sheet of plastic covering them or some coating to protect them? - BA

Floors and the Great Outdoors

Over spring break, I painted the floor, which is new OSB over the original metal sub-floor.

"Storm" by Benjamin Moore - this was my $6/gallon paint from Habitat

I think I painted myself and my clothes as much as I painted the floor...

I was much more careful when I stained the deck, thanks to the copious warning labels.
We found this tinted, waterproof stain in the "oops paint" at Lowe's for $5.00, reduced from $35.00!

BA actually did have a reason to be on the roof - he's bolting the metal to the internal wooden frame.

Then (industrious guy that he is) he started building another shed.

This shed and the new deck are made from the wood that Building Community gave us.

They also gave us the white door. Very sweet people!

Gave me flashbacks to being in Professor Synar's sculpture class (in a good way).
She's the person who taught me how to turn old pallets into usable wood.
(These pieces will be sanded and stained to make decorative wooden tiles.) 

The future front door (and some other stuff)

You might also notice a folding door hardware kit leaning against the door above. I used this kit (which came with absolutely no useful instructions) to take two used 1/2 doors and turn them into a single, hinged folding door for the bathroom. I need to clean it up and paint it, then I'll post a picture. I did change the knobs already (they were brass. ick.) by painting a couple of extra drawer pulls and screwing them onto the door.
